Hampton Gardens Secondary School

Project overview

HSP were commissioned by Peterborough City Council to advise on a new build secondary school for 1500 students in Peterborough. With a value of £27 million, HSP were involved in the full design and detailing from concept to final construction. Opened in September 2017, Hampton Gardens Secondary School is a large two and three storey steel framed school with comprehensive facilities including a 3G All-Weather sports pitch, an Amphitheatre and a Learning Resource Centre.

In addition HSP prepared a Transport Statement and Travel Plan during its proposal stages. The school opened in phases, in line with the growth in housing provision surrounding the site. The study needed to consider the phasing of pupils, traffic and parking demand, access, road safety and measures to encourage staff and pupils to travel by non-car modes to the School.

Nottingham University

Project overview

HSP Consulting were commissioned to undertake a number of structural works, with a value of £15 million,regarding the construction of a new teaching block which is to consist of a performing arts studio, a large lecture theater and a five storey inner atrium. The structure as a whole, comprises of a five storey steel frame and precast floors, and is expected to be completed in July 2018. 

Beckfoot School – Bradford

Project overview

£40 million new build 2 storey steel framed Secondary School as part of the Bradford BSF.

Challenge: Remediation of petroleum hydrocarbons whilst construction taking place.

HSP Solution: Source zone phased decontamination. A total of 150,000m3 of free product was extracted throughout the entirety of the project.

Mill Hill School

Location: Ripley

Project overview

HSP were commissioned to advise on the construction of a two storey classroom block at the Ripley Academy (formerly Mill Hill School) in Ripley, Derbyshire. Due to the poor ground conditions present, HSP advised for the foundations to be piled with suspended ground floors, and for the structure to consist of a simple braced steel frame with SIPPS panels externally.

Telford Co-operative Academy

Location: Telford

Value: £27 Million

Project overview

HSP were commissioned by Shepherd Construction to advise on the construction of a proposed school in Telford Valued at £27 million. The project involved the construction of a new building to provide accommodation for the Telford Co-Operative Academy.

The existing building was constructed on local authority owned land, incorporating grassed pitches, a running track, a leisure centre, and a tennis centre.

HSP advised on the new building to comprise of a hot rolled steel frame, supporting cast in-situ concrete composite floor slabs and cold rolled purlins which were used to support the built up roof system. HSP also advised for the Floor slabs to be connected to beams by a series of thru-deck welded studs, with the beams being designed compositely with the slab.

With HSP’s input, the Telford Co-operative Academy was completed on time and to budget.

Proposed Free School, Coombe Road

Client: Jacobs UK

Location: Croydon

Project overview

HSP carried out a ground investigation, ecology surveys and unexploded ordnance surveys at the proposed site of a large secondary free school with associated playground, cycle track, car parking and playing fields.

The ground investigation addressed the complex geology at the site, with three different types of bedrock recorded at the site, through a variety of methods including cable percussive drilling, window sampling and trial pitting. The Phase II report was issued in interim form within fifteen days of completion on site to meet client schedules. The brief insisted that the playing fields were left exactly as they were found, which was achieved.

To address ecological issues at the site, HSP carried out an arboricultural survey and bat surveys. The site is located next to Coombe Wood, a rare expanse of woodland inside the M25 and an important habitat.

Southfield Grange Campus, Bradford

£20 million 3 storey in-situ concrete frame Headmaster Training College.

Challenge: Highly complex scheme.

HSP Solution: Foundations were piled, specialist concrete finishes were utilised throughout. Completed on program and within budget.

Morley Memorial Primary School

Project overview

Preparation of a Transport Statement and Travel Plan for the renovation of the existing school and annex building. Review of site layouts, review of accessibility and parking issues. Travel Surveys were undertaken to establish the mode share and trips by mode.
