Leicester’s tallest building

HSP Consulting complete tallest building in Leicester in record time!!!

HSP Consulting in conjunction with Maber Architects and Capita Symmonds have over the last two years worked on the design and construction of the tallest building in Leicester which was completed in August this year for Student Accommodation.

The 22 storey high reinforced concrete building has an elliptical plan shape and was constructed in record time by Tolent Construction who tendered for the scheme last year and were successful against considerable competition in the construction sector.

The multi storey building was designed in both structural steelwork and reinforced concrete to give the contractors a choice but ultimately the reinforced concrete solution proved to be the most economical out of the two and the introduction of two storey pre-cast concrete columns to the scheme combined with a 200mm in situ reinforced concrete flat slab design enabled the contractors to progress the work on  site at an extremely fast pace.  Large diameter concrete piles were adopted to support the structure.
The adjacent four storey loadbearing masonry block was also value engineered by adopting vibro flotation for the low level structure and combined with the loadbearing masonry and the adjustment to the basement location to value engineer the scheme this proved to be the most economical and proactive approach to the project.

The 400 student accommodation spaces have been fully let resulting in an extremely successful project for all those concerned.

The Contract value of approximately £12m was exceptionally competitive and in the current marketplace proved to be good value for Megaclose, the client and developer on the scheme.

HSP Consulting have long a established excellent working relationship with Megaclose and the other members of the team and look forward to working with them on future successful projects throughout the country.
