Career Development
HSP Career Development success story.
In 1997 at the age of 17 I was heading towards the end of a two year
GNVQ Course in Construction and the Built Environment and an A level in
Graphical Communications.
I decided in April of that year that I would seek employment within the
Engineering Consultancy section of the construction industry and
basically fell on my feet in finding HSP Consulting and successfully
getting through the interview to be employed as a Junior Technician.
HSP Consulting allowed me to complete my college courses on a day
release basis and upon completion I was encouraged to go further.
In September 1997 I enrolled on a National Certification Course in
Civil Engineering at Basford Hall College. This was a part time course
which required me to attend once a week. HSP Consulting were happy for
me to do this and also supported me financially.
Upon completion of the NC, HSP spurred me on further. I was sponsored
to take a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Civil Engineering, again
on a day release basis at the University of Derby. During this time I
was promoted within the company to a Senior Technician at the age of 21.
In the year 2000, on graduating from the University of Derby I was
again encouraged by HSP to further my education and I was accepted at
the Nottingham Trent University to study a B.Eng in Civil Engineering.
During the four year part time course I was yet again supported by HSP
with respect to knowledge held by certain employees in helping me
through the course and financially in that the company covered course
fees and awarded me with the one day a week to attend University and it
is for this I would like to sincerely thank HSP Consulting.
I graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a Bachelor of
Engineering (Hons), Second Class (1st Division) in Civil Engineering
and was duly promoted again to become an Engineer/Senior Technician.
In November 2005 I was made an Associated Director of the Structural
Division which is where I am to date, still being encouraged by HSP to
go on and gain Chartered Membership within the Institute of Structural
Engineers.
