Howard S Pratt

TNER Howard Pratt has been working as a chartered civil & structural engineer since 1975. He is a fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers and the association of Consulting Engineers and a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers. He is also a past chairman of the Institution of Structural Engineers for the East Midlands.
Howard worked for Taylor Woodrow on the Queens Medical Centre (£120m contract) as a Senior Engineer for 3 years and with a number of Consulting Engineers in the Midlands over a period of some 15 years. In addition to this he gained considerable experience in the Bridge and Structures office of Nottinghamshire County Council and worked on a number of major bridge schemes. Howard has extensive knowledge in both civil and structural engineering works and has also worked on litigation and complex structural assessments where arbitration is involved.
His specialist field is in the assessment of difficult development sites where specialist foundations are required together with recommendations on the most suitable treatment for contaminants found across these sites.Howard enjoys working on the development of large areas of land (between 20 and 200 acres) and has gained considerable experience in this type of work over the last 15 years.
He is keen to ensure that all of the designs undertaken in our office are well appraised and assessed in order to achieve an optimum solution which must exist for each project. Engineers working with him have been taught to fully investigate the site conditions and where Site Investigations have already been undertaken to excavate trial holes on the site to examine the ground conditions for themselves. The assessment of structural solutions is also high on his list for achieving optimum solutions and often a different approach to the structure has won our practice the project.
Howard is keen on all sport liking rugby, cricket, golf, archery, football, tennis, snooker and athletics. He regularly goes to watch international rugby matches and likes to play golf and tennis together with some 5-a-side football with the office. Howard is keen on the theatre and often goes to plays, shows and the opera in Nottingham and London. He is keen on automobiles and likes to drive his sports cars at weekends. Howard also likes cooking and enjoys entertaining guests at his home where he will show them how to shoot shotguns, rifles and longbows.
